Central Huron council is taking a look at a work from home policy for staff.
Deputy Mayor, Dave Jewitt says it's something a lot of employers are offering to staff and they learned through COVID, that they could allow staff to work from home.
“But certainly we have to be mindful that it has to work for everyone and it can't impact customer service levels that we have because at the end of the day, the customers that we have are the rate payers of Central Huron. So it's an important work from home policy, but it can't impact services," Jewitt noted.
Jewitt says what council has decided to do is put in place a three-month trial period.
“So what we put in place was a three-month trial period. So we will be able to determine at the end of three months, whether there is any impact on customer service levels for the rate payers that we have. So it will be reviewed in three months time to see if it works and to see what adjustments we have to make," said Jewitt.
Jewitt adds, with so many other employers offering a work at home option, the municipality has to at least look at it to be competitive in attracting employees.
