High speed internet services being expanded in South Bruce Peninsula

More high speed internet expansions are coming to South Bruce Peninsula.

A release from the municipality states that a joint effort between two companies will bring the much needed service to more customers.

"Shared Tower will be working with Rogers Communications to provide High Speed Fixed Wireless access for home internet to the Oliphant area as well as improved 5G cellular service by the end of this year and High Speed Fixed Wireless access for home internet and improved 5G Cellular service along County Road 13 into Wiarton to be completed by spring 2023," the release shared. "Fibre Optic cable will run between Sauble Beach and Oliphant with an anticipated activation date of December 23, 2022."

Five 5G cell poles will be constructed which will provide 5G cellular coverage and high-speed connectivity to the serviced areas. The location of the poles will be the Oliphant Dog Park, Bluewater Park, Wiarton Works Depot, the Oliphant Shoreline and North Sauble Sands campground.

“Council has continually pushed for increased servicing in all areas of South Bruce Peninsula, and we’re thrilled with the opportunity to negotiate new coverage for Oliphant and County Road 13 into Wiarton” shared Mayor Janice Jackson.
