Huron County is moving ahead with a level three Regional Electric Vehicle Charging Network.

Climate Change and Energy Specialist, Derry Wallis, says the partnership involves numerous counties.

“The partnership, at this stage, will be alongside Bruce, Dufferin, Perth and Grey counties, which is exciting since we all have level three electric charger opportunities,” Wallis says.

Wallis says the next step is all five counties are hoping to hire a facilitation partner.

“All five counties are hoping to hire a facilitation partner to help the partners apply for funding for this next stage and coordinate with a third partner, who will actually be owning and operating these EV chargers,” Wallis notes.

She adds, the level three chargers will fully charge a vehicle in less than an hour.

Wallis says she believes getting the level three chargers will be a great step forward.

“I think it’ll be a great step. We do have level two chargers going in this year throughout the county, so this will be a great edition to that Easy-Charger system that we’re trying to build here in Huron County and allow tourists with electric vehicles to freely travel within the county,” Wallis shares.

Wallis says all of the five counties will be putting the level three chargers in at the same time so people with electric vehicles will be able to travel all the way from Huron County to Northern Bruce County. She adds, ultimately, the goal is to create a charging network throughout the Province and connect them to the GTA and all of the other major corridors.
