Saugeen Hospice receives funds from Grey Bruce Hospice

The board at Saugeen Shores Hospice has received some major funding from another local hospice.

A release states that Saugeen Hospice is receiving a $568,732.33 transfer from Grey Bruce Hospice. Those funds were previously held in a "south Build" account by the Grey Bruce Hospice, which had begun fundraising efforts in 2017 for a satellite hospice that were put on hold in 2019. Following the Canada Revenue Agency confirming Saugeen Hospice's charitable status in June of this year, Grey Bruce Hospice announced it would "no longer be pursuing the South Build, making Saugeen Hospice the successor to carry on the community held vision of a hospice close to home in the southern Bruce Grey region."

Saugeen Hospice is moving ahead with plans to build a new hospice in the Municipality of Brockton, with Walkeron as the selected site. The Saugeen Hospice group was founded in 2021. The Saugeen Hospice board is inviting community members interested in learning more to attend the “Evening with Saugeen Hospice” event and Annual General Meeting on September 21st at the P&H Centre in Hanover. For more information and to confirm attendance, please contact askus@saugeenhospice.ca.

“We are thrilled that the funds raised over several years by our incredibly generous community will now be put to use, and help achieve our goal of building a hospice in the southern Bruce Grey region” says Kelly Fotheringham, Chair of Saugeen Hospice. “I’d also like to thank Grey Bruce Hospice for their cooperation in this process, and for their stewardship of these funds over the last couple of years. We look forward to collaborating with, and learning from the hospices already serving the greater area."
