Police lay sexual assault charges against school bus monitor
The Owen Sound Police Service has laid charges against an 81-year-old male following a sexual assault investigation.
Police say in a release that the investigation determined that two young female children were inappropriately touched by the 81-year-old school bus monitor on an area school bus. The accused was employed by a local company providing school bus transportation services. He appeared in court on May 18th to answer to charges of two counts of Sexual Assault and two counts of Sexual Interference. The male has been terminated and is no longer performing duties as a school bus monitor. Officers say the man was believed to only be associated with one single bus route which serviced three area Catholic schools. School officials have directly notified parents of children on that route.
The investigation is ongoing to determine if there are any other potential victims or if anyone may have witnessed anything further. Police say no students will be contacted directly by police, and should any follow up be required it will be coordinated jointly through the school and parents.
