Local physicians honoured for National Doctors Day

Goderich's 28 physicians were honoured for National Doctors Day last Friday. National Doctors Day was on Saturday, May 1st.

Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Physician Recruitment Lead, Gwen Devereaux, says the day was a huge success and something the physicians really appreciated.

“It has been a couple of really tough years and while we appreciate our doctors, I think they're very tired and it's been very hard, so it was nice to be recognized by the hospital, by the town of Goderich.”

Devereaux says the students at St. Marys Catholic School showed how they felt by doing pictures of what a doctor does.

“The students at St. Marys Catholic School did pictures of what a doctor does, where a doctor works and what a doctor eats. And it might surprise you to find that most of the students said that doctors eat apples and doctors rock.”

Devereaux says it's important to recognize that the physicians have been going through the pandemic just like everyone else, with the isolation and the restrictions that we've all felt plus they've had to see a lot of things that the rest of us haven't, so she was very happy to be there on Friday and see them thanked for what they've done.
