More broadband projects get funding in Perth County

Perth County is getting more funding to set up more rural properties with broadband internet.

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece announced in a release that the provincial and federal governments are investing another $3.2 million in partnership with Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) Inc.

That's to complete infrastructure that will bring broadband services to over 660 homes, businesses and farms in Perth and Middlesex counties. Areas in Perth getting service soon include Listowel, Amulree, Mennonite Corner, Ratzburg, Hampstead and Lisbon.

The province has a goal of getting all Ontarians connected to broadband internet by 2025. The release states that "more than $255 million has been invested by the governments of Canada and Ontario and the private sector to bring high-speed internet to thousands of Ontarians."

“Raising a family, living or working in a rural community should not be a barrier to internet access,” said Pettapiece. “I’m extremely pleased that SWIFT is bringing this much-needed infrastructure to many businesses and residents in our community. These investments will bring new opportunities for these areas and builds on our government’s efforts to expand high-speed internet throughout Ontario.”
