Wiarton Willie to go virtual with no public attendance for 2022

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula will host the annual Wiarton Willie prediction virtually this year due to concerns over COVID-19.

In a release, the town says that "the prediction will proceed at 8:07 a.m. on February 2nd, 2022, via live feed with no public attendance. Links to the live feed will be provided closer to the event." Additionally, the Wiarton Willie Town Festival events scheduled for February 5 are cancelled.

The town says the emergence of the OMICRON variant and the ongoing public health concerns prompted them to cancel in-person gatherings this year, with hopes that the festival can return in full force next year.

“The decision to alter our event was inevitable, however, the health and safety of our residents and staff is of the utmost importance,” says Mayor Janice Jackson. “We hope that this time next year, we will return to celebrating Willie’s prediction together”.
