Local unemployment rate falls below 3 percent

The latest unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region dipped below 3 percent last month.

According to a release from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, the local unemployment rate fell another 0.2 percent in November to 2.8 percent in the region, which continues to be the lowest regional unemployment rate in Ontario. The last time the unemployment rate in the area was below 3 percent was late 2019. Meanwhile, the provincial unemployment rate decreased to 6.4 percent, with both rates unadjusted for seasonality.

Overall net employment in the region was unchanged for the third month in a row, remaining steady at 162,200, with full-time gains of 400 partly offset by part-time losses of 300. Current job postings for the Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth region continue to reflect the need for diverse skill sets in various occupations and industries across the region.
