ABCA presents transition plan to board members regarding Conservation Act changes

The Project Coordinator for the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says they presented their transition plan to board members last week.

Kate Monk explains, Conservation Authorities across the Province are going through the transition phase for the Conservation Act update.

"So Conversation Authorities across the Province are going through the transition phase for the Conservation Act update and so we presented our transition plan and that's really our work plan to get from now until the end of the transition period at the end of 2023."

Monk says there are three different categories for programs and services.

"So there are three different categories for programs and services and so that's what they'll be going over with their municipalities and giving them information on the costs and different sources of funding. So that's the process we'll be going through with a goal of meeting the regulations of the Act as well as meeting the needs of the municipalities."

Monk says there are some new responsibilities for conservation authorities under the Act, so they'll meet with municipalities to work out the costs and determine what they can afford to get done.
