Liberal candidate for Huron-Bruce kicks off campaign in Brussels

Shelley Blackmore, from Howick Township, kicked off her campaign as the Liberal candidate for Huron-Bruce at the Four Winds Event Barn in Brussels last night.

Provincial Liberal leader, Steven Del Duca and about sixty Liberal supporters were there to help Blackmore launch her campaign. Blackmore pointed to a number of key issues, but said number one boiled down to access to services in rural Ontario.

"Number one boils down to access to services, whether it's transportation services, social services, a huge problem is housing, it's all over Ontario, but definitely in rural Ontario it's a huge issue. The shortage of skilled labourers, a lot of people that have small businesses can't get people to work."

Blackmore adds, they have to make sure that people are paid a living wage.

"We need to make sure that people are paid a living wage, we need to make sure that they're going to have affordable child care, which is one of our Liberal platforms, and then improve our transportation services and as Steven said, our broadband access."

Blackmore says the key to addressing many of those issues is cooperation between federal, provincial and municipal governments and that's not happening right now.
