Mayor commends local service club members for revamping local recreation scene

Two members of Goderich service clubs have partnered to expand recreational opportunities in the town.

Goderich Mayor, John Grace says Bruce Thomasson, of the Goderich Rotary Club and Earl Pennington, of the Goderich Kinsmen's Club started with a project that involved taking advantage of the growing popularity of pickle ball and they've installed six courts at Columbus Park.

"They installed six courts at Columbus Park and did a phenomenal job. And they raised most of the money right here in the community, through service clubs, personal donations, corporate donations."

Grace adds, they also received some Federal money as well as donations from the town of Goderich and the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.

Grace says, with that completed, they're moving on to another project.

"Now they're moving on to another phase, in which they're going to look at ping pong tables down at the waterfront. They're cement tables, which you quite often see in a beach application. They're also looking at re-doing some of the other features at Columbus Park, including the basketball nets."

Grace says updates will be presented to council as the projects move along.
