Fire crews put out blaze on flatbed trailer carrying straw bales

The Mildmay Fire Station of the South Bruce Fire Department responded to a report of straw bales on fire on a flatbed truck traveling south on Bruce Road 3 just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Fire officials say the truck stopped on Elora Street, just south of Bruce Road 3 in Mildmay.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire but then it took an hour to take the bales apart to clear the hot spots.

The call also came as crews were clearing an earlier medical call.

The road was closed for about an hour and half but has since reopened but clean up crews were still on scene as of 11 a.m.

The fire is deemed accidental in nature and the truck carrying the straw was not damaged and no one was injured.

South Bruce Fire thanks their volunteer team for the quick response as well as OPP for traffic assistance and South Bruce Public Works.
