Big Brothers Big Sisters Kincardine extends coverage to South Bruce and Brockton

September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, and the Kincardine chapter is celebrating by expanding.

Executive Director, Yolanda Ritsema, says in addition to serving Kincardine and Huron Kinloss, they’re now operating in the municipalities of South Bruce and Brockton.

“We’ve had quite a few inquiries from those areas. Since that service coverage area was not being served at all, we decided that we would take care of offering programs and services to the young people in those communities.”

BBBS is also actively recruiting mentors. Ritsema says they have a wait list of about 20 kids ranging in -age from 6-16 due to a lack of mentors. “We’re looking for someone who really just wants to add value in a young person’s life, to build a relationship, to invest in them, to help guide them.”

Ritsema says anyone wondering what mentorship is like can attend one of their upcoming information sessions. They will be held virtually on September 27th and September 29th at 7pm. Pre-registration is required.
