Perth South launches new program encouraging tree planting

Perth South is introducing a new project called Tree Power to try and increase the local tree canopy.

The municipality has partnered with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority to give residents a chance to purchase trees through the new program. 300 trees are being made available on a first come, first serve basis. A variety of native species including American Sycamore, Red Maple, Swamp White Oak, Basswood, and River Birch will be available in limited quantities. The trees are approximately 1.5 meters in height and have a cost of $20-$25 per tree.

This year, Perth South Council discussed concerns over reduced tree coverage in the municipality, with significant damage done from Emerald Ash Borer invasions. So council made some budget funds available to try and address the issue. Interested residents can visit http://www.perthsouthtreepower.ca to purchase trees, which are being limited to one per household.
