West Grey Library dedicating time capsule to 2020

UPDATE: The time capsule dedication ceremony for Friday, September 24th has been CANCELLED.

In a release, West Grey Library Communications and Programs Coordinator Kimm Culkin says this is due to the library's commitment to offer proof-of-vaccination service, printing, copying, reducing and laminating forms free of charge.

Culkin says the capsule will be on display at the library through Ontario Public Libary Week, with Member of Provincial Parliament for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Bill Walker scheduled to visit the capsule and make a contribution on October 20th.

The West Grey Library is dedicating a time capsule to 2020, to be opened again in 2040.

On Friday, September 24th, West Grey Library is inviting guests to an outdoor gathering that will see a time capsule remembering 2020 and all the challenges and ups and downs the community experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic locked away for 20 years. A release from the library states it will be an informal ceremony to "mark the grit of the community in getting through the past 18 months with good cheer and goodwill.  All public health protocols will be observed, and the event will be brief."

The ceremony will be at the recently renovated Durham branch of the West Grey Library. Guests who come for the event are encouraged to come in and see the branch renovations and browse, use computers and WiFi, and take advantage of many of the other services they were previously able to enjoy. The Library is also offering free photocopying of proof of vaccination documents with free lamination of those documents, as well.
