New GO Train route to include stops in Stratford and St. Marys

The new London to Kitchener GO Train route will make routine stops in Midwestern Ontario.

In a release, Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says the new route, which begins on October 18th, will make routine stops in St. Marys and Stratford for travellers. Pettapiece says this is a big win for rural travellers, who now have another option for getting to and from urban centres near them. He notes that there are people who need to get to London, Kitchener and Toronto that can't always drive, either due to bad weather, medical conditions or other reasons. This new route will give many people more independence in getting where they need to go.

Pettapiece states in his release that he has been pushing for the St. Marys and Stratford stops since 2012 and he also wrote to Premier Doug Ford in 2018 emphasizing the need for more transportation options in rural areas.

“I have always spoken up for better rural transportation options, including GO train service,” Pettapiece says. “This announcement should leave no doubt that we are on track to deliver. Not everyone who needs to go to London, Kitchener or Toronto is able to drive—especially in bad weather.”

Pettapiece adds “this will be a safe and convenient option for them. It will also be good for the local business community and our many cultural and tourist attractions.”

“The people of Southwestern Ontario deserve better access to a safe and reliable transportation network,” shares Caroline Mulroney, the provincial Minister of Transportation. “Under Premier Doug Ford’s leadership, we are taking concrete action and keeping our promise to extend much-needed GO service all the way to London for the first time.”
