Fly-in luncheon very successful in showing support for local airport

A fly-in at the Goderich Airport attracted over 125 people on Thursday.

The event was organized by Marilyn Bruinsma, who is an administrative secretary with COPA 45. She explains, they also belong to the Trillium Aviators, a group of pilots that was formed about three years ago and has been travelling all over Ontario since then.

"Gore Bay, Midland, we've been to Chatham and all over Ontario. So, this event happened because the leader of the Trillium Aviators wanted to come to Goderich and I thought it was very important that we showcase Goderich."

Bruinsma says the timing was important because a report on the future of the Goderich Airport is expected to come before Goderich council in the next month or so. Bruinsma says they got great support from the town of Goderich and Mayor, John Grace, as well as Warden Glen McNeil, Mayor of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and COPA 45.

Bruinsma says the weather co-operated and it was a great day.

"So today was all about showcasing Goderich. We had all of our 45 aircraft out on display, on the apron. We had 73 aircraft fly in and we served well over 125 people."
