Charges pending regarding recent parties that caused COVID outbreaks in Grey/Bruce

The Grey-Bruce Health Unit is working with local authorities to bring charges against those responsible for recent COVID-19 outbreaks in the region.

In a release on July 20th, GBHU Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ian Arra, confirmed that two recent parties in the area caused significant COVID outbreaks, causing "significant additional cases." The release goes on to state that "although many teens and young adults who attended these parties were forthcoming with information, some withheld information or provided incomplete information. This hindered investigators and negatively affected the ability to reach high-risk individuals in a timely manner, potentially allowing for more spread of the virus."

GBHU says that charges will be brought against any individuals that willfully obstruct a case/contact tracing investigation conducted by the health unit. People who "willfully defy local directives and provincial regulations can face fines." Those fines can be up to $5,000 a day upon conviction and can be applied retroactively to the day the initial non-disclosure of information occurred.
