County's Local Immigration Partnership participating in Newcomers Welcome Week

Huron County's Local Immigration Partnership is participating in a Newcomers Welcome Week in September and they're looking for newcomers to share their experiences.

Immigration Support Officer, Hana Aria points out, a newcomer is not defined as someone who came here in the last few months, but could very well be someone who came here five or ten years ago, because integrating into a new community can take some time. She says they're looking for newcomers who will share their stories.

“So we want to get newcomers to submit stories. They can be brief, even if it's just a little paragraph, or even call and I'll take some notes, but anyone who would like to share a success story or talk about their experiences integrating into the community.”

Aria says they're also doing a video segment that would include newcomers sharing a greeting in their culture.

“But if you want to share a greeting in your culture, whether you record it on your phone or do a zoom recording or even if you would like to contact me and I can come out and we can do a brief, forty second recording, saying OK, this is what we do in our culture, this is how we greet.”

Newcomer Welcoming Week will run from September 10th till September 19th and newcomers interested in participating can contact Hana Aria at haria@huroncounty.ca
