Atwood teen ready to take on fundraising bike ride for great cause

An 18-year old Atwood teen is preparing for a big bike ride this Sunday.

It’s to raise money for the Children’s Health Foundation. It provides support for organizations like Sick Kids Hospital. Colin Williams set the wheels in motion a few months ago with a goal of raising $5,000 on GoFundMe, but he's blown past that, sitting at over $14,000 heading into the weekend.

"I thought it would be a cool thing to start a fundraiser for the Children's Health Foundation in London and all the money is going directly to the foundation. I thought it would be a cool thing to do to bike from my hometown in Atwood to Collingwood, roughly 150 km."

The Children’s Health Foundation provides support for organizations like Sick Kids Hospital. For Colin, the cause is a personal one.

"I've had friends and family that have had to go to the foundation, I've had a lot of donors, as well, that have sent me messages, telling me their stories, myself included. It's just a really cool thing to see the community sharing a story like that."

Colin works at the Listowel Golf Club and has had patrons there tell him they're aware of his fundraiser and hand him cash for the cause and give him well wishes. A sporting store in BC even sent him riding gear. He will bike this Sunday rain or shine, and the GoFundMe will remain open another week after the ride.
