Bruce Power donates to Relay for Life virtual events

Bruce Power has donated to local Relay for Life virtual events this year.

According to a release, Bruce Power will match up to $30,000 in donations for the Canadian Cancer Society’s virtual Relay for Life events in Stratford and at Saugeen District Senior School in Port Elgin. Both events will be held virtually on Saturday, June 12th due to COVID. The Relay will "still feature the hallmark components of the in-person events, including celebrating cancer survivors, walking laps, enjoying fun activities, supporting people living with cancer, collecting online donations, and remembering those we’ve lost."

Today, nearly one in two Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

“Bruce Power has long been a sponsor of the Canadian Cancer Society and local Relay for Life events,” says Dwight Irwin, Bruce Power’s Manager of Community Relations. “All 4,200 of our employees have celebrated with a family member or friend who survived cancer, or shed tears for those we love who did not. We thank all the participants for their dedication and fundraising efforts to a cause that touches us all.”

“Today, nearly one in two Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime,” says Special Events Specialist at the Canadian Cancer Society, Allison Taylor-Misener. “With your help, we’re funding groundbreaking research and able to provide a national support system for people with cancer, their caregivers and their families. Together, we will show Canadians affected by cancer that they don’t have to go through their journey alone, and we’re so grateful for your support.”
