UGDSB to kick off Pride Month celebrations

With Pride Month beginning tomorrow, the Upper Grand District School Board will be kicking off celebrations across their board and at all their schools.

Beginning June 1st, schools and offices in the UGDSB will raise the Pride flag as a show of support for the many members of their community that identify as 2SLGBTQIA+. That includes teachers and staff, students and parents and guardians. In the official release, the UGDSB says the board will "provide schools with intentional learning resources that centre on the contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and addresses homophobia, transphobia, biphobia and other forms of oppression by first person experts."

Highlights of UGDSB's Pride Month celebrations will include videos featuring Olympian Mark Tewksbury, activists Jer Dias and Spencer Wright, authors Jennifer Lavoie and Nathan Burgoine and musician Kate Reid. The board also invites students and staff to send in pictures of their Pride themed sidewalk, window or driveway displays.
