Bruce Power supporting new Brockton Regional Fire Training Centre

Bruce Power is lending support for the new Brockton Regional Fire Training Centre.

Following the recent announcement that the Ontario Fire College was restructuring to a more regional setup, Brockton decided to establish its own training centre for volunteer firefighters. The goal is to provide Brockton and the surrounding regional fire departments with "affordable, attainable and accessible training in a safe, professional environment," according to a release on May 14th. The centre will offer courses that include live fire training with help from Bruce Power's Fire Training Facility.

Bruce Power's Fire Training Facility is already made available to local fire departments within Bruce, Grey and Huron counties free of charge for training. According to the release, the facility features "propane-fueled props, producing fire and smoke, to simulate a variety of situations and thermal cameras, located throughout the building, capture video footage and stream it back to a central control room." The main building, which can be used year round, also features a 50-foot tower for high-angle rescue training.

“Earlier this year, the Ontario Fire College restructured its format to move to a regional approach and the Municipality of Brockton is launching the Fire Training Centre with the goal of providing Brockton and its surrounding regional fire departments with affordable, attainable and accessible training in a safe, professional environment,” says Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody.

“We commend the Municipality of Brockton for taking this initiative to ensure volunteer firefighters get the training they need to keep themselves safe and also protect people throughout our region,” adds Jennifer Edey, Vice President of Site Services at Bruce Power. “We all owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our volunteer firefighters for the sacrifices they make to keep us safe.”
