Blyth Art Gallery to host virtual art showcase and sale to benefit local artists
The Blyth Festival Art Gallery will be hosting a virtual showcase and sale to benefit local artists.
In a release, the Blyth Festival Art Gallery states that they are “issuing an invitation for submissions to this non-juried exhibition of art from June 5th to September 30th.” There will be no fee or commission for sales from the show.
”We recognize that the past year has been difficult for many artists. While we can’t physically get together to celebrate our regional art in our annual Community Show, we would like to provide a platform to showcase and sell work through our Facebook page,” says Gallery President Carl Stevenson.
Exhibition Chair Bruce Stainton explains why the gallery will not collect a commission for the event.
“This pandemic has been a financial burden for people in the arts. The Gallery won’t be providing a physical space, nor staffing, payment or shipping. We, as volunteers, consider it a duty to support the arts community in whatever
Each week during the exhibition, one or two artists will get featured on the Gallery’s Facebook page and other social media channels. Photos and details of up to 6 items of artwork along with prices, the artist bio and contact information will be posted. Using that information, potential buyers can then contact the artist directly. A schedule of featured postings will be announced after the submission deadline of May 30. All artists will be responsible for being ready for their showcase slot, as will as collecting any money from their works and arranging COVID-safe pickup or delivery.
