County Economic Development Department launches new economic dashboard

Huron County's Economic Development Department has just launched a new Economic Development Dashboard designed to display the economic and social health of Huron County.

Economic Development Officer, Alex Ripley says the Dashboard is now available to the public and of the most important features of the Dashboard is that the information is updated regularly.

"The purpose of this would be to give county councillors, municipal staff and the general public an insight into how we're doing and really what we know about our key sectors, our employment levels and really our recovery from COVID-19."

Ripley points out the Dashboard can be used to support evidence-based decisions by council, but will also be useful for realtors, investors, researchers and all kinds of community groups. He says when they were creating the Dashboard, they felt it was important to focus on data that could be updated regularly. He notes there are a lot of data points out there, anything from the census is one example, that are only updated once every five years. He says that's not very useful for someone who's trying to make decisions in the here and now.

"So, you go on the Dashboard and what you will see are a lot of data points that get updated every month, some that get updated quarterly, or semi-annually or at the outside, you have some that would be updated annually. But for the most part, you're looking at very current data."

Ripley adds, the fact that the data is updated automatically is really a key feature.

The Dashboard is now up and running and can be accessed by going to http://ecdev.huroncounty.ca. Ripley invites anyone with questions or comments to contact the Huron County Economic Development Department.
