HPPH expands vaccine eligibility as supply of vaccines increases

Huron Perth Public Health has expanded vaccine eligibility in the region to those 60 years of age and older, as well as primary caregivers.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says they were able to expand eligibility as the supply from the province is beginning to stabilize.

"It feels great and we're hoping to be able to move to the 55-plus group as quickly as possible," said Dr. Klassen. "Our vaccine supply is becoming a little more predictable and stable and we know that we're going to be able to add more clinics, so we look forward to that opportunity."

Dr. Klassen adds the uptake among the first groups in the region to be eligible has been high.

"Part of the reason that the uptake has been good, is that there is a history in Huron Perth of working together very closely already, the whole healthcare system. Everybody was giving the same messages of building vaccine confidence."

Clinics in Goderich and Stratford will be running May 11-15.
