Bluewater conducting waste management plan

The municipality of Bluewater is in the process of conducting a waste management plan.

"Right now we're looking at alternatives to the Varna waste site and seeing what we can do because in five years that site could be full at the present rate of filling it up," says Mayor Paul Klopp. Klopp says, assuming the present rate of material being put into the site, it could be full in five years.

Klopp says at this point everything is on the table, including reducing the amount of material going to the site, composting, buying a compactor that he says should have been bought a while ago and they're still looking at that option if that will extend the life of the site. Klopp says they're also looking at another site. "We're looking at Hensall, although Hensall has got a lot of issues. It's not officially closed, but there are issues there."

He says right now the most they can hope for is trying to extend the Varna site until they can come up with a more permanent solution.
