Huron County councillors learned recently that over 15 million dollars worth of new broadband will be going into the county over the next two years.
County Economic Development Director, Cody Joudry, explains that includes money from Huron County, the local service providers and from the federal and provincial governments.
Joudry says that funding will support ten projects that will be spread all over the county and will bring broadband service to just over one thousand, 800 homes.
Joudry says one of the biggest is the Wroxeter Project being done by Wightman and that includes most of Wroxeter, Gorrie and Fordwich.
"That alone is almost 3.7 million. Some of the other large projects are the Porter's Hill project, which is just short of two million, so around the Porter's Hill area, south of it."
"The other one is the Lumley project, which is 2.7 million, done by Hay and it basically fills in the rest of South Huron, like after this is done, basically all of South Huron will have high quality broadband," adds Joudry.
And Joudry also says he believes a lot of the credit for what's been done so far should go to the service providers in Huron County.
"I think they've work very hard, quietly behind the scene to slowly expand services as best they could. So once these projects are done, there'll be just shy of three thousand, seven hundred premises in Huron County that wouldn't be serviced by the current standard or by the SWIFT project."
He adds, the county is working very hard to get service to all of the people that don't have it.
