Perth-Wellington municipalities receive Connecting Links funding

Two municipalities in Perth-Wellington are receiving Connecting Links funding to fix roads and bridges.

In a release on April 9th, Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says West Perth will receive $530,172 to resurface Highway 8 in Mitchell. Wellington North will receive $1,420,000 for the reconstruction of Queen Street East, Highway 89 in Mount Forest. The province is investing 30 million dollars across 14 municipalities to help repair roads and bridges. Eligible municipalities will get up to 90 percent of project costs covered up to a maximum of 3 million dollars for road projects.

The province also announced in response to feedback from municipal governments, starting in 2021-22, the province is permanently raising the maximum amount of available funding for bridge projects from 3 million to 5 million dollars. Municipalities can begin submitting applications for the 2022-23 round of Connecting Links funding later this year.

"Roads and bridges are critical to rural and small-town Ontario,” Pettapiece says. “This announcement is good news for our area. I have always said the province needs to pay its share where provincial highways are concerned. I congratulate the municipalities, councils and staff who made the case for funding."

“By investing in our roads and bridges, vital links that connect people to jobs, we’re supporting the movement of goods and creating economic growth in local communities,” adds Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation. “This funding not only helps municipalities maintain local infrastructure, but also supports projects that make roads safer, such as improvements to pedestrian crossings.”

$ 465,321
