Centre for Coastal Conservation accepting applications for Geoff Peach Memorial Scholarships
The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation is now accepting applications from the Geoff Peach Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Executive Director, Erinn Lawrie, explains, their co-founder, Geoff Peach passed way in 2017 and they received several donations in his memory. She says Peach was very passionate about the lake and the shore and the need to protect them and they wanted his work to continue.
“So we established the Geoff Peach Memorial Scholarship Fund and it will fund research in coastal processes, bio-diversity, dune conservation, plastic pollution, any of those types of topics.”
Lawrie says two grants are available each year.
“It’s available to university graduate level students, so masters and PhD level students, who have interest in researching those types of topics. So we’re doing two grants per year.”
The grants are each worth up to $1,500. The deadline for applications is the end of January and information about how to apply can be found on the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation web site.
