Small Remembrance Day Ceremony held in Hanover

A small gathering at the cenotaph in Hanover remembered those who have given their lives for our country.

While most towns marked Remembrance Day strictly online, Hanover Royal Canadian Legion members went to the town for permission to hold a service at the cenotaph.

Mayor Sue Paterson said the town consented and ensured that all pandemic protocols were observed.  She added that it was an emotional ceremony.

"To me, it's a sobering event, the service.  The 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, so sobering for people to think that people gave their lives so we could be here today to thank them," said Paterson.

The Hanover Legion asked members of the public not to attend, however, Legion President Dan Haverson said he was pleased to see the few people who did turn out.  He said schools and other organizations were marking Remembrance Day with services of their own.
