Annual OPP Red Ribbon Campaign kicks off

Members of the South Bruce and Huron County OPP branches were in Goderich recently to kickstart the annual Red Ribbon Campaign.

On November 5, 2020, officers gathered with volunteers from the Huron-Bruce chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to conduct a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in Goderich to create awareness and catch potentially impaired drivers. Almost 200 vehicles passed through and every driver was compliant and in sober condition.

Project Red Ribbon is an annual awareness campaign to promote sober driving during the holiday season. Even though the usual parties and celebrations may be limited this year due to the pandemic, the holiday season is still a time of high risk for impaired driving. Huron-Bruce Mothers Against Drunk Driving is celebrating its 25th anniversary and dedicated their mission to stop impaired driving and supporting victims of violent crime.

"Drivers should expect to see enhanced patrols and RIDE checks during the festive season," said Sergeant Russ Nesbitt from Huron County OPP. "Driving sober is always the right choice. If you choose to drink or use drugs call a taxi, phone a friend, stay the night or have some other plan to get home safely.  Please make a good choice and only drive if you are sober".
