Wind warning issued for parts of southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada is warning residents that strong, and potentially damaging winds will move through the region on Sunday night.

A wind warning has been issued for Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce counties, while a special weather statement is in place for many other areas across southwestern Ontario.

An Alberta Clipper is expected to bring wind gusts between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour beginning late Saturday and into Sunday. The weather agency expects the low-pressure system to cause winds to pick up to nearly 90 kilometres per hour by Sunday evening before diminishing early Monday.

Damage to homes, such as roof shingles and windows may occur. High winds can also toss loose objects around, and cause tree branches to break. Those living near Great Lake shorelines should take precautionary measures for possible flooding as well.
