HPPH staff helping other health units with COVID-19 contact tracing

The Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Public Health announced on Monday that there is one active COVID-19 case in Huron and Perth, no hospitalizations and no outbreaks in long term care homes.

Doctor Miriam Klassen also announced that because of the low number of cases in Huron and Perth, Huron Perth Public Health has started providing held to Peel Public Health.

"Due to the low current number of cases in our area, Huron Perth Public Health is able to assist Peel Public Health with some of their case and contact tracing. We will continue to assist until our help is no longer needed."

Doctor Klassen says they currently providing about half of their case and contact staff to help Peel Public Health and that amounts to about six people. She also points out if the number of cases is high anywhere in Ontario that also presents a risk to Huron and Perth. So helping other public health units is not only a way of helping our fellow Ontarian but it's also a way of protecting ourselves.

"Because the Province has this Provincial case and contact management tool that we all use and we use it, in fact, to refer cases and contacts to one another, our staff can remotely provide that assistance."
