Huron County's acting tourism officer says COVID-19 is presenting some challenges in planning for the next year.
But Rick Sickinger said the news isn't all bad. He said most of the Huron County tourism operators he's spoken with report an excellent summer season and he suggests that could be because by the time summer arrived people were anxious to get out and explore a little.
Sickinger said the biggest challenge in planning into the fall and winter is the uncertainty of the pandemic. No one knows what they might be able to do.
"There's no certainty of when we can do things and then we plan things and conditions change, like the second wave hits and then things that we thought we would be able to do for this Christmas season, for example, you know protocols and health and safety of people is paramount."
Sickinger said the current feeling is that the conditions that exist today will probably be with us for the next year or so.
"Our thinking is that let's plan that that is the reality for at least another year. And you just don't plan anymore, you plan A, B and C, this scenario and this scenario and how, if we have to cancel programming, how do we then make that virtual programming."
Sickinger added most tourism operators are doing their best to adjust to the current conditions.
