Local council denies zoning bylaw amendment for Drayton dog kennel

Mapleton Council has denied a zoning bylaw amendment that would have permitted a dog kennel near Drayton.

In discussing the application at its regular meeting on Tuesday, council noted that although there is nothing within the mandatory 150-metre radius of the proposed kennel except farm fields, it did abut onto a not-for-profit facility called "Conestoga Crest" that houses approximately 32 seniors.

The president of that facility, Keith McIntosh, attended the meeting and did say they opposed the rezoning, noting the Crest is located at the end of a dead-end street so residents can live in a quiet atmosphere.

No one at the public meeting was in favour of the dog kennel.
