Coughing on cop results in more charges for Wingham man

Allegedly coughing on a police officer amid a global pandemic has resulted in assault charges for a Wingham resident.

On April 2 at around 8:23 p.m., Huron County OPP officers were called to a residence in Wingham for a "mental health act occurrence" after a man allegedly threw an unspecified object at his partner. While the object missed its intended target, it hit and damaged a window in the home.

When officers attempted to arrest the man, he became aggressive and allegedly attempted to resist arrest. At one point, the man allegedly coughed on the arresting officer in an apparent effort to harm the officer.

The man is now charged with domestic assault, assaulting a peace office and domestic mischief. The man has since been released with a future court date.
