The CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance is awaiting approval from the province to set up assessment centres for testing for the novel coronavirus.
CEO Andrew Williams said all hospitals in the province were asked to work with public health around the possibility that they would be asked to set up assessment centres. Those measures have been completed, but provincial is still required approval.
Williams said the way the system is working with the assessment centres that are already open is that most have a call-in line.
“The way things are sort of working with the assessment centres that are open, most have a call-in line, they set up appointments, they go through a triage questionnaire and they will advise whether or not you need to come into the assessment centre.”
Williams said there are four potential outcomes of discussions.
“There are four potential outcomes of discussions, one is to self-monitor, one is to self-isolate, one is to come to the assessment centre, one is to go to your local health care physician / ER. So it really would be on an individual basis.”
He added the assessment centres are not designed for anybody to just walk in off the street and be tested.
