All four teachers unions hit the picket lines together for first time since 1997

All four of Ontario's teachers unions are off the job today.

OSSTF District 8 President Shane Restall says that means three will be on the picket lines in Blyth, Seaforth and Stratford.

Restall says “Three in our area are off together, showing solidarity to fight back against the cuts that the Ford–Lecce government are imposing on our classrooms. It'll be, locally, the English Catholic Teachers and the Elementary Teachers and OSSTF support staff and OSSTF teachers.”

Restall noted “How the cuts are manifesting themselves is a little bit different in the elementary panel and the secondary panel, but essentially the cuts are affecting student experience and support for students and we are fighting those cuts.”

He also points out the government has been back in Queen's Park since Tuesday and so far, there hasn't been any talk about back to work legislation. He says they're also encouraged by the fact the English Catholic Teachers have been at the bargaining table for two days now.
