Technical Training Group now accepting applications for 2020 programs

Technical Training Group is now accepting applications for its 2020 Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Multiple Trades Exposure Programs.

Training & Marketing Coordinator Liz Balletto said this year they've received funding to deliver three Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Multiple Trades Exposure Programs. The first program will be held in Clinton starting in March 2020, followed by one in Stratford in April and a third in Listowel in August.

Balletto said the program consists of 17 weeks of in-class training.

“You do welding, metal fab and machining, 120 hours of welding, 60 hours of machining, you do some blueprint reading. After those 17 weeks, you do an eight-week paid placement," she said.

Balletto said applicants range in age from 18 to people in their 50s.  She added that demand for skilled trades is so high because more and more people are recognizing the opportunities.

“For the ministry to fund programs like this – they pay for the safety boots, they pay for the gear that people need to start their careers. It really is an amazing stepping stone to getting people into apprenticeship opportunities," she said.

Applicants must have a Secondary School Diploma or GED and be 18 years old by the time they complete the program. They must be unemployed, underemployed or working part-time and eligible to work in Ontario. The programs will be delivered in the evenings Monday to Thursday and every other Saturday.

More information about the programs as well as applications can be found on the Technical Training Group website.
