Maitland Trail Association hosting annual Candlelight Walk in February

The Maitland Trail Association's annual Candlelit Walk through the Maitland Woods will be held on February 7th this year.

Maitland Woods Secretary, Erinn Lawrie, explains the event is an annual fund-raiser for the Association and also highlights the very unqiue Maitland Woods Trail, located behind the Knights of Columbus Hall in Goderich.

Lawrie says one of the features of the walk is the string of hand made lanterns that lines the trail for the walk.

“People can come out to our lantern-making workshops, which is Saturday, January 25th and possibly the 26th as well, from ten till three and then volunteers go out and they line the Maitland Woods Trail with these beautiful hand made lanterns.”

Lawrie adds they don't do the while Maitland Woods Trail, so it's not the full three kilometre hike.

“We don't do the whole Maitland Woods, it's not the full three kilometre trail, it's just a kilometre and a half, so it's a fairly short hike, it's very family friendly, a lot of people come out with their kids and after the walk you can come inside the Knights of Columbus Hall for hot drinks and snacks.”

Lawrie says the lanterns are hung between 6:30 and 7:30 and then the walk is from 7:30 till 8:30. More information about the Maitland Woods Trail Candlelit Walk can be found on the Maitland Trail Association web site.
