The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is committed to rebuilding the Lion's Head Lighthouse as close as possible to the previous structure.
The white-and-read lighthouse was demolished on the morning of January 12 by a storm that created high waves and significant snow accumulation.
Community Services Manager Ryan Deska said the original plans for the original reconstruction in 1983 will be used "as a reference point" for the new build, but he did confirm "stronger materials and proactive design measures will be used that can handle the weather and rising water levels.
When asked who will be paying for the new build, Deska confirmed they have an idea of the cost and have started the process of drawing up estimates, but due to a number of uncertainties (location, materials, volunteer labour, ect.), the true cost is currently unknown.
Northern Bruce Peninsula will examine the issue more in-depth at its next council meeting on Monday, January 27.
