Brockton fills vacant council seat

Brockton Council has selected the new councillor to fill the vacancy left by Chris Oberle.

After an extensive application and selection process, Tim Elphick was been selected as the newest Brockton councillor Tuesday afternoon. He participated in his first council meeting that evening.

Elphick said he felt a strong urge to get involved and help serve his community.

"As a young person here in Brockton raising a young family, it was certainly of interest to me to ensure that we have representation across the board here in our communities, and that was really what inspired me to get involved," he said.

Elphick said he has some clear goals for this year as Brockton’s newest councillor.

"I think that sustainable growth is really important for us as council, we have a lot of subdivision plans on the go. At the same time, as we look at our roads and facilities here in Brockton to ensure that they're viable and attractive as a community of choice for both new residents and commerce coming to our community."

With budget season well underway, Elphick said he’s excited for the work ahead, particularly learning the ropes in terms of helping put together the municipal budget for this year.

"It'll be a great time for me to learn about a lot of the different services that we have to offer here in Brockton, and ensure that we're doing so in a responsible manner that respects the taxpayer dollars, and further to ensure that we're investing our money in places that will allow us to effectively grow responsibly," he said.
