Police urge public caution after successful call scam costs resident $2K

South Bruce OPP are again asking the public to be wary of internet and phone scammers.

A Kincardine area resident was recently successfully scammed out of $2,000 after receiving an alleged call from Canada Revenue Agency. Following the call, the resident sent the $2,000 in Google Play Cards.

Police are asking everyone to be mindful of these scam calls or emails, and to verify the identity of the callers or senders. Canada Revenue Agency will never call and request payment by gift card or pre-paid credit card, and they will also never threaten court charges, jail time or deportation.
