Many local OPP detachments are reaching out to shoppers this weekend in an effort to help those in need this time of year.

Perth County OPP Auxiliary Unit members have joined forces with the Salvation Army to host food drives at several locations across the county.

Food collections will take place Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Zehr’s in Listowel, and Walkom’s Valu-Mart in Mitchell. Shoppers can purchase a pre-bagged donation or select your own items.

Members of the South Bruce OPP Auxiliary unit will also be at grocery stores on Saturday, accepting donations for area food banks.

Donations will be accepted at Sobeys and No Frills in Kincardine between 9 a.m. and noon.

Auxiliary OPP officers will be at the Freshmart in Paisley from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

“By supporting the food drive, you can help make a positive difference in someone’s life” stated Inspector Rob Scott, detachment commander, Perth County OPP.

The Saugeen Shores Police Auxiliary will set up a toy drive on Saturday at the Canadian Tire and Walmart in Port Elgin. People can donate new toys from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
