Local vigils Friday for National Day of Remembrance

Vigils and memorial services will be held around our region on Friday to mark a grim anniversary.

December 6 is the 30th anniversary of the murders of 14 women at l’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal.

Violence Prevention Grey Bruce is partnering with The Women’s Centre, Women’s House Serving Bruce-Grey, Georgian College, M’Wikwedong, The United Way and the Men’s Program to host a vigil in Owen Sound.

It will be held on Friday at Georgian College from noon to 1 p.m. The vigil is planned for outside, so organizers suggest those attending dress for the weather.

In Goderich, the Huron Domestic Assault Review Team will have a service at 10 a.m. Friday at the Royal Canadian Legion.

The Canadian Federation of Women will also hold a Vigil Against Violence Against Women at noon Friday at Coulter Parkette in Port Elgin.

And a group from West Grey is holding a candlelight vigil at the gazebo behind Chicory Common in Durham.  It starts at 7 p.m. Friday, and will honour the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
