Local council to hold public meeting regarding building permit fees

Brockton will hold a public meeting this month to look at possibly increasing building permit fees.

Mayor Chris Peabody said they want public input to help them decide what to do regarding the fees and any possible tweaking that council does.

"We're looking for citizen input, especially from our developers, because we are trying to be a community that's open for business, and we want to make sure we have a very development friendly place, so that we can get more homes," he said.

In terms of potentially increasing the fees, Mayor Peabody said even if they do, Brockton would still be charging less than other areas.

"I have looked at and compared the rates, and even with the increase, it's still below many of our neighbours, and that's what's important to me, to make sure we have as little red tape as possible for people who want to build homes here in Brockton," he said.

The public meeting will be at the Bruce County Council chambers in Walkerton on Tuesday, December 17 at 7 p.m.
