Local teachers meeting to discuss central issues with provincial government

Elementary school teachers in Huron and Perth will be meeting Thursday afternoon to look at the local preliminary submission to the board.

Local President Kent Cleland said the hope is they'll get some dates before the winter break to get local negotiations underway with the board.

“We're meeting with our membership this afternoon to have them take a look at what will be our local preliminary submission and then, hopefully, we'll get some dates before the winter break, to meet with the board to start to negotiate locally," he said.

Cleland added they'll also take a strike vote Thursday afternoon for the central table negotiations.

Cleland said they're not ready yet to set a strike date at the local level.

“Locally, no, we're nowhere near that. So what we're having tonight is for the central table items, which is negotiated at the Provincial level between our provincial organization, the school board's association and of course the Ford government," he said.
