Washrooms may be coming to regional soccer fields

The Bruce Power Regional Soccer Park in Walkerton may soon have new washrooms.

Brockton Council moved last night to send an application to the province for a new recreation grant for municipalities.

Mayor Chris Peabody said they held off on building the washrooms just in case a grant like this became available.

"We had the hookups in there for the water and everything and an area prepared in case something like this came along. So we've got the plans, we've got the hookups, and now we're going to submit the plans to the government to try and get a large amount of funding," he said.

The mayor said the funding that is available, if secured, would be very significant.

"The funding is in the neighbourhood of 80 per cent and we'd have to put 20 per cent in so it's a great grant, and we hope to hear back by Christmas, and we would be ready to go in the new year," he said.

Peabody said the cost to the municipality to complete the build would be roughly $30,000.
